Tinnitus Treatment Lake Geneva, WI
Specialized Tinnitus Care, Now Available in Lake Geneva
If a constant ringing, buzzing, or humming has been part of your life for months or years, and the answer you keep getting is some version of "you'll just have to live with it," there is more that can be done. That advice reflects older thinking, not the current standard of care.
AuD Hearing has partnered with Chicago Hearing Services so that patients in Walworth, Kenosha, Racine, and surrounding communities can see a specialized tinnitus provider close to home. Dr. Emily Dudley, AuD, a Certified Lenire® Provider, sees patients monthly at our Lake Geneva office.

Have You Been Told Nothing Can Be Done?
Many patients arrive at their first appointment having heard a version of the same message for years. An ENT may have ruled out medical concerns and stopped there. A primary care doctor may have suggested it would fade with time. Friends and family may have offered the well-meaning advice to simply tune it out.
Tinnitus is not curable, but for most patients it is treatable. The sound can be measured, the underlying contributors can be identified, and a plan can be built that produces real, lasting relief. The first step is sitting down with someone whose practice is built around this condition.
Understanding Tinnitus
Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no outside source is producing it. It may sound like ringing, buzzing, hissing, humming, clicking, or even a steady tone. For some, it is constant; for others, it comes and goes depending on stress, sleep, or noise exposure. It can be felt in one ear, both ears, or seem to originate inside the head.
What matters most is this: tinnitus is a symptom, not a disease. The contributors can come from the ear itself (the eardrum, middle ear bones, cochlea, or auditory nerve) or from how the brain processes auditory signals. Every patient's combination of factors looks slightly different, which is why a thorough evaluation matters before any treatment plan is built.

The Impact on Daily Life
Patients commonly describe tinnitus affecting their lives in several ways:
Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
Trouble focusing at work or during conversations
A buildup of mental fatigue across the week
Heightened anxiety in quiet rooms
A gradual erosion of patience and mood
Withdrawal from social gatherings that used to feel easy
These effects are real and measurable, even though no one else can hear what you are experiencing.
Acknowledging this impact is part of why a tinnitus consultation is structured to be an unhurried, one-on-one conversation rather than a quick check-in.

Meet Dr. Emily Dudley, AuD
Dr. Dudley is a Doctor of Audiology whose practice centers on one principle: tinnitus care should be deeply personal and never rushed. At Chicago Hearing Services, she has guided hundreds of patients through the process of understanding their symptoms and building treatment plans that produce lasting results.
As a Certified Lenire® Provider, she offers a treatment that very few audiologists in the region are trained to deliver. Chicago Hearing Services was the first practice in Chicago to earn Lenire certification, and Lenire remains the only FDA-approved bimodal neuromodulation therapy for tinnitus available today.
Her approach pairs careful diagnostic work with patient education and long-term follow-up. Patients leave each appointment with a clear understanding of what is happening, what their options are, and what to expect next, in language they can actually use the following day.

What to Expect at Your Consultation
Plan on about an hour. You will not be rushed, and you will have time to ask every question you have been holding onto.
Treatment Approaches
No single treatment works for every patient with tinnitus, and any provider promising a cure is not being honest. What does exist is a set of evidence-based therapies that, in the right combination, produce meaningful improvement for the majority of patients. Dr. Dudley draws from all of them.

Lenire® Bimodal Neuromodulation
Lenire is the first and only FDA-approved device of its kind for tinnitus. It pairs sound delivered through headphones with gentle stimulation on the tip of the tongue to retrain how the brain processes the tinnitus signal.
Patients use the device at home for about an hour each day. As a Certified Lenire Provider, Dr. Dudley handles the fitting, programming, and ongoing follow-up throughout treatment.

Hearing Aids
Tinnitus and hearing loss are closely connected. When underlying hearing loss is present, even at mild levels, addressing it with modern hearing aids often reduces tinnitus symptoms substantially. This is why a recent hearing test is part of the consultation prep.
While Dr. Dudley evaluates whether this approach makes sense for your specific situation, she does not fit hearing aids at the Lake Geneva office. If hearing aids are recommended as part of your treatment plan, you will be referred back to the AuD Hearing team for your fitting and ongoing care.

Sound Therapy
Apps and small dedicated devices play ambient or relaxing sounds to reduce awareness of tinnitus, particularly at night. Dr. Dudley often configures these tools with patients during the consultation itself.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
How the brain reacts to tinnitus shapes how loud and how distressing it feels. CBT, typically delivered through a referred therapist, helps interrupt that cycle and reduces the emotional weight of the symptoms.

The Modern Tinnitus Approach
Dr. Dudley's care model extends beyond clinical treatment alone. The Modern Tinnitus framework brings in biometric tracking, sleep optimization, exercise, mindfulness, and meditation alongside the therapies above because tinnitus responds best when the whole system is addressed rather than one piece.
